Questions (40)

John Connolly

Question:

40. Deputy John Connolly asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware of third-party software or commercial services which, for a fee, automatically monitor and book driving test cancellations through the Road Safety Authority (RSA) online booking system; whether his Department or the RSA has examined the operation of such services; if such services are considered compliant with the RSA’s terms and conditions of use; whether he has concerns regarding the potential unfair advantage these services may confer on those who are able to pay for them; and the measures being considered to ensure equitable access to driving test appointments (details supplied). Under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has statutory responsibility for all aspects of the National Driving Test Service. Given the RSA's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the RSA for direct response. Please contact my office if a reply is not received within ten days.

Pending this full response, I understand that the RSA is aware of some third party applications purporting to offer driving test candidates cancelled appointments. The only official site for booking a driving test slot is the RSA operated MyRoadSafety portal. The RSA is not affiliated with any third party booking systems and I would urge anybody seeking to book a test to do so through the official RSA portal.

Additionally, the RSA ICT department continues to work closely with their partners to ensure that such sites or third parties are restricted in their ability to access the booking portal.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
