Questions (176)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

176. Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Transport the obligations on app dispatch operators to show a taxi driver the exact final fare charged to their passenger (details supplied); the protections that exist for the driver who correctly entered the lower meter amount in an event where a passenger claims to have been charged more than the meter; which document is the authoritative expense record where the app transaction and taximeter receipt contain different amounts; and if issues relating to these questions will be addressed in the current review of dispatch-operator regulation. The regulation of the small public service vehicle (SPSV) industry, including regulations concerning the issuing of fare receipts and the ongoing review of dispatch operator licence regulations, is a matter for the independent transport regulator, the National Transport Authority (NTA), under the provisions of the Consolidated Taxi Regulation Acts 2013 and 2016. I have no role in the day-to-day operations of the SPSV sector.

Accordingly, I have referred your question to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you have not received a reply within 10 working days.
