The Oireachtas Library and Research Service (L&RS), in partnership with Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland), has hosted a range of webinars that bring together scientists, researchers and academics in a parliamentary setting for discussions on topics of interest to Members, the wider parliamentary community and the public.
Science Week webinars
Science Week, supported by Research Ireland, is a collaboration of events involving industry, colleges, schools and libraries throughout Ireland that celebrates science in daily life.
The Houses of the Oireachtas L&RS is proud to play an active role in this celebration, hosting webinars in collaboration with scientists and researchers on a range of topics exploring how science is shaping our world.
Science Week 2025
Towards a renewables-led economy
Marking Science Week 2025, a webinar hosted by the L&RS in partnership with Research Ireland considered Ireland’s move to a renewables-led economy, with contributions from:
- Professor Lisa Ryan from the School of Economics at University College Dublin is a specialist in clean energy technology adoption, energy markets, climate change economics and related policy.
- Kate Walsh is a Senior Parliamentary Researcher (Environmental Science) in the Oireachtas Parliamentary Research Service, with publications on topics including data centres in Ireland.
- Dr Jimmy Murphy, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at University College Cork. Dr. Murphy is the lead technical engineer of the Lir National Ocean Test Facility (Lir NOTF) in the Research Ireland MaREI Centre.

Marking Science Week 2023, a webinar hosted by the L&RS with SFI considered artificial intelligence and assisted driving, with contributions from Professor Martin Mullins of the University of Limerick and Professor Martin Glavin of the University of Galway.
Future-proofing Ireland’s energy systems
