The energy transition must be enabled by modern, flexible infrastructure. The European Grids Package is central to this effort, supporting the integration of renewable energy and accelerated permitting for grids and renewable products, as well as enabling the expansion and interconnection of electricity networks across Member States.

During our upcoming EU Presidency, Ireland will drive the EU’s energy agenda including making meaningful progress on the Grids Package towards the goal of closing the package.

Ireland was not approached to sign the letter in question. As per protocol for an incoming Presidency, Ireland will not be formally joining any further negotiating positions on the file. When Ireland assumes the Presidency, it will be our responsibility to take the European Grids Package forward as an “honest broker” on behalf of the entire Council.
