Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of fixed charge notices issued for cycling-related offences since 2025; the measures being taken to ensure cycling-related offences are tackled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes the issuing of Fixed Charge Notices.

An Garda Síochána is committed to protecting vulnerable roads users in line with the Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030. To that end, Gardaí have issued 1,688 Fixed Charge Notices between 1 January 2025 and 30 June 2026 in relation to cycling-related offences.

An Garda Síochána have provided the below breakdown of Pedal Cyclist Fixed Charge Notice offences committed in 2025 and 2026:

All members of An Garda Síochána proactively enforce road traffic legislation and are required to perform 30 minutes of Roads Policing activity during each tour of duty.
