Written Answers. - Mayo School Extensions.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the extension to St. Muredach's College, Ballina, County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The outline sketch scheme for the extension to St. Muredach's College, Ballina, Co. Mayo is under examination in my Department.

At this early stage of planning it is not possible to say when construction work will commence.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the drawings and planning for the extension to Crossmolina vocational school, County Mayo.

Earlier this month a request was received from the County Mayo Vocational Eduction Committee that the accommodation in the proposed extension to Crossmolina vocational school be increased. This request is presently being considered. Accordingly, it is not possible at this stage to say when architectural planning can be commenced.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the severe overcrowding of Currabaggan national school, Ballina, County Mayo; and if she will, in view of the fact that the extension can be incorporated inside the existing school, instruct that a start be made on the extension.

The present position with regard to the proposed extension to Currabaggan national school, Ballina, County Mayo, for which a grant has been sanctioned and sketch plans approved by my Department is that the further architectural planning for the project is currently being undertaken by the Commissioners of Public Works. I shall ask the commissioners to expedite the work as much as possible.

asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the proposals to extend Crossmolina girls national school, County Mayo; and is she is aware of the severe overcrowding there.

My Department have agreed that the Crossmolina Convent national school, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, should be extended by a classroom and a library cum medical room. The Commissioners of Public Works have recently been asked to prepare sketch plans for this extension with provision in the plans for possible future extension. As soon as they become available, the plans will be furnished to the chairman of the school's board of management for consideration.
