Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vaccination against Asian Flu.

asked the Minister for Health whether he considers it desirable and whether it is proposed that vaccination against Asian flu should be offered to key medical and nursing personnel in general practice and the general hospital medical services.

For some time past, my Department has, on my instructions, been making inquiries as to the availability of supplies of influenza vaccine for the vaccination of key personnel in the health and other essential services. To date it has been found possible to procure only a very small quantity which is negligible in relation to the amount required. In the circumstances, it would not be practicable to make a distribution on a country-wide basis. Arrangements have, accordingly, been made with the Dublin Corporation for the allocation of the very limited quantity available to the larger acute surgical hospitals, maternity hospitals and fever hospitals in the city.
