I am aware of the export opportunities for Irish beef that exist in some countries in the Far East at present. For this reason I have raised with the EEC Commission the possibility of reintroducing refunds on exports of beef to that area. The Commission's initial reaction has been favourable. I am optimistic that the necessary measures will be introduced shortly.
