Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Limerick Abattoir Exclusion from Slaughtering.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

84 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a company (details supplied) in Dublin 11 is excluded from quoting for depopulation of herds at their abattoir at Dock Road, Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Director of ERAD that animals from herds which are depopulated because of bovine TB or brucellosis are regarded as constituting a disease risk. These animals are tagged and punched as reactors and, as such, are subject to the same controls and supervisions as clinical reactors. It is current ERAD policy that reactors may only be slaughtered at EC registered meat export premises. The premises referred to by the Deputy are not so registered.
