Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

136 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason he has not yet met Amnesty International, or even set a date for a meeting, in view of the fact that the organisation has written to him several times since it launched its Irish campaign on mental health in February 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter [17621/03]

As Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with special responsibility for mental health, I met representatives of Amnesty International following the publication in February of its report, Mental Illness – The Neglected Quarter. I understand that the Minister, Deputy Martin, has also agreed to meet Amnesty International and it is expected that this meeting will take place in the near future.
