Ceisteanna (151)

Tom Fleming

Ceist:

151. Deputy Tom Fleming asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government when details of the new tenant purchase scheme will be made available as local authority tenants are currently deprived of the opportunity to purchase their homes; when the new scheme will be open to tenants who wish to make an application; if he will introduce a new tenant purchase scheme as at present no such scheme exists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government, on 17 December 2013, approved priority drafting of a Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill that will, among other things, underpin a new tenant purchase scheme for existing local authority houses along incremental purchase lines. I expect that the Bill will be enacted this year, following which I will prescribe in regulations the commencement date and the detailed terms of the scheme.
