122. Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Finance his plans to ring fence a percentage of moneys from betting duty and-or tax to be distributed to the relevant Department for the provision of problem gambling treatment and prevention services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Hypothecation is not a feature of the Irish tax system in general. I am not in favour of hypothecation of revenue receipts as it reduces the flexibility of the Government to prioritise and allocate funds as necessary at a particular time.
