As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure in the Greater Dublin Area, including, in conjunction with Iarnród Éireann, the re-commissioning works at Kishogue Station.

Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a more detailed reply on the specific issue raised. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 51.
I am writing to you concerning the matter you raised in Parliamentary Question No. 78 on 19 January last which has been referred to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for reply.
During 2021 Irish Rail undertook a series of inspections, condition surveys and assessments with a view to bringing Kishogue station into passenger service. This identified a quantum of works that were necessary to bring the building into compliance with up-to-date technical requirements, current operational arrangements and to also address some degradation of the building / platform fabric due to vandalism, theft, wear & tear, weather and animal/bird incursions. The quantum of works required was beyond what was initially estimated resulting in the need to revise the opening date.
Designs for the works are significantly complete and the procurement process commenced in December 2022. Construction is expected to commence in the coming months and the station to be brought into passenger service by year end.
I hope that the above information is of assistance.
