6. Deputy Colm Burke asked the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a team has been established to review the occupations on the critical skills occupation list and ineligible occupations list for employment permits, on foot of submissions made by employers and stakeholders, representative bodies, Government departments, agencies and other interested parties during a public consultation process which ran from June to August 2023; if this review is currently underway; when this review will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Economic Migration Policy Unit of my Department are tasked with responsibility for managing the review of the lists process and are actively engaging with other government departments to consider submissions received to the latest public consultation to review the Occupations Lists which was open between June and August this year.

The deliberative process is ongoing at present and the IDG on Economic Migration Policy convened in late October to oversee the review, consider all evidence and submissions and to collect the observations from Government departments with regard to shortages and impacts in their sectors.

It is expected that a report will be finalised for my consideration by the end of the month following which any recommendations approved would be implementation through amendment to the Employment Permits regulations thereafter.
