Deputy Mairéad Farrell asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to provide an update on the progress of the selections for the Board of Research Ireland, given that his Department, sought expressions of interest for members of the Board of Research Ireland in October 2023, with a closing date of Monday, 23 October 2023. Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department engaged with the Public Appointments Service in an open and transparent process to seek expressions of interest for the roles of Chairperson and members of the Board of Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland in October 2023. This PAS process is currently being finalised.
The legislation to enable the establishment of Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland has recently passed all stages in the Oireachtas and has been signed by the President.
The establishment date for the new agency will be designated by the Minister and drafting of the required secondary legislation arising out of the Act is underway.The Chairperson and the Board for the new agency will be appointed in due course, in advance of the establishment date.
