Ceist:

123. Deputy Patrick Costello asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications if his Department will conduct an audit of all sites owned/rented by Government Departments for a feasibility study on installing deposit return machines on sites which sell applicable units on site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The decision on whether to install an RVM lies fully with the hospitality operator on site. As Minister, I have no function in this matter.

Under the regulations, retailers who sell products covered by the Scheme, including those who operate in government departments, are obliged to provide a take-back facility for empty containers, unless they qualify for an exemption.

Retailers with a store size of less than 250m2 , as well as those operating vending machines or online sales, food-to-go and hospitality establishments may apply to Re-Turn, the DRS operator, for an exemption from providing a take-back facility.
