Deputy Matt Carthy asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department, or any agency under his auspices, has ever used any artificial intelligence software in the preparation of response to parliamentary questions, or in responses to any correspondence from outside the organisation; the details of same if applicable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department’s use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is grounded in its Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Interim Policy. In line with guidance provided by the National Cyber Security Centre, the Policy states that GenAI systems should not be used to respond to correspondence such as Parliamentary Questions, or public representations.
My Department is actively exploring the opportunities and policy considerations presented by AI, while at the same time, taking measures to safeguard security.
