252. Deputy Noel Grealish asked the Minister for Social Protection the number of applicants for invalidity pension that were lodged in Galway (city and county separately), the number approved, the number initially refused, the number refused on review, the number then appealed to the Social Welfare Appeals Office and the number of those appeals that were upheld or rejected, in 2022, 2023 and to date in 2024, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Invalidity pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and for no other reason and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.

The information requested by the Deputy is provided in the table(s) below. Claim processing statistics are not collected on a county basis, and thus it is not possible to provide data for Galway city and county. National totals are provided.
