Amharc ar fhreagraThe disposal and end of life decisions regarding animals are matters for the individual owners/keepers. With regard to those who are seeking options to slaughter horses for human consumption, my Department has recently certified a number of consignments of equines for intra-community movement for slaughter to the EU. Equines being so moved undergo official identity checks to ensure they are properly identified and registered on the Animal Identification and Movement Database (AIM). Checks with respect to eligibility for the food chain and fitness to be transported are also carried out.
