Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science the number of civil servants, by grade, in his Department who were on a career break in 2023 and 2024; the number of those who in 2023 and 2024 who were on a career break of five years or more; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Note: Some staff who were on a career break in 2023 were still on career break in 2024 and are therefore included under both years.
Please note that the data is representative of staff FTE (full time equivalent hours).
As my Department was established in August 2020, there are no staff members on a career break of more than five years and more than six years, at the end of August 2023 and August 2024.
