The Human Capital Initiative (or HCI) was established in 2019/20 as a ringfenced initiative for €300 million in additional funding from the National Training Fund for a period of 5 years. It is due to conclude, as planned, with the current academic year 2024/25.
The initiative has been successful in its objectives to increase capacity in areas of key skills need and has driven innovation and agility in our higher education institutions. The Higher Education Authority and the Department are working with the sector to examine the integration of key innovations made under HCI Pillar 3 in participating institutions.
For Springboard+, funding will continue as usual under its existing structure. It is planned that a call will go out in the coming months for proposals for Springboard+ 2025. This will identify the skills areas and courses to be included in the programme.
