Deputy Michael Murphy asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for an update on the proposed “College of the Future” on the former Kickham Barracks site in Clonmel that will create a college which will host both further and higher education students, being the first co-located and fully integrated further education and training and higher education campus in Ireland. Amharc ar fhreagraTipperary Education and Training Board (TETB) submitted a proposal for a development in Clonmel as part of the Further Education and Training (FET) College of the Future Major Projects Fund. The proposal put forward by TETB is one of twelve projects that are currently being progressed under this fund.
In September 2024 following an evaluation process, six proposals including the TETB proposal met the relevant criteria and were approved to move to the next stage of development, the Pre-tender – Project Design, Planning and Procurement Strategy Stage. SOLAS continues to engage with these six ETBs around further developing their proposals and associated schedules of accommodation. Work has also begun on the development of standardised procurement and tender documents as part of this stage of development.
