The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) provides funding for the development and enhancement of outdoor recreational infrastructure such as walking trails, cycleways, water-based recreation sites and mountain trails.

Between 2020 and 2024, almost €3.5 million was awarded to Cork County Council for over 40 projects.

The table attached outlines funding awarded to Cork County Council and the amount drawn down under the ORIS from 2020 to 2024.

Details relate to the funding approvals per calendar year rather than each annual iteration of the scheme. For example, projects under measures 1, 2 and 3 of the ORIS 2023 scheme were formally announced at the start of 2024 and are included under the 2024 column.

In addition to local authorities, it should be noted that state bodies and local development companies may also apply under the scheme. These are not referenced in the table.
