I propose to take Questions Nos. 462 and 471 together.

My Department funds a range of grant schemes for the repair and conservation of protected structures and certain other historic buildings.

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) provides grants of between €2,500 and €50,000 for a wide range of conservation works; the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) provides grants of between €50,000 and €200,000 for similar works at a larger scale. Both schemes are administered in the main by the local authorities with funding from the National Built Heritage Service (NBHS).

The breakdown of BHIS funding allocations per local authority is as follows:

The total allocation for 2025 is greater than for previous years because grants of between €15,000 and €50,000, which were previously made under the Historic Structures Fund, now form part of the BHIS allocation. Funding is allocated to local authorities based on the number of buildings on the relevant Record of Protected Structures.

In relation to the Historic Structures Fund, the list of projects awarded funding is published by my Department on an annual basis. Projects funded under HSF in 2023 can be found at the following link:

www.buildingsofireland.ie/app/uploads/2023/03/Historic-Structures-Fund-2023-Projects.pdf

Projects funded under the HSF in 2024 can be found at the following link:

Social Housing is delivered through a range of local authority and Approved Housing Body (AHB) delivery programmes. Capital expenditure on the delivery of new social homes is also supported by current funding provided through the Social Housing Current Expenditure Programme (SHCEP).

The table below sets out the details in respect of social housing expenditure through build, acquisition and lease delivery schemes in each year over the period 2020 – 2023. In relation to 2024 Housing expenditure, this is currently being examined and will be available shortly.

In relation to funding for AHBs, my Department does not fund AHBs directly, rather the funding is provided primarily to the local authorities and also to the Housing Agency, who in turn, release this funding to the AHBs in line with relevant funding scheme conditions. However, the funding provided by my Department in respect of the main range of AHB capital and current funded schemes, in each year over the period 2020 – 2023, is set out in the table below.

www.audit.gov.ie/en/publications/appropriation%20accounts/

My Department's 2024 Appropriation Account is currently being finalised and is due to be submitted to the C&AG shortly.
