Deputy Mairéad Farrell asked the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality if she will provide, the list of capital projects, by her Department or bodies under its aegis, which had contracts valued in excess of €5million, which ran over cost in 2023, along with a description of the contract, the initial price and final price provided, in tabular form. A schedule of capital projects which had contracts valued in excess of €5million and which ran over cost in 2023 is included below, along with a description of the contract, the initial price and final price provided.

The Deputy should please note that the schedule of projects below relate to the International Protection programme areas, which have since transferred to the Department of Justice on 1st May 2025.

Rapid Build Homes Programme

A programme to deliver 654 rapid build modular units at 11 sites across the country to accommodate 2,640 people who have fled the war in Ukraine.

Modular Proof of Concept Project

Columb Barracks was selected by Government in March 2023 as a proof of concept site to examine the potential of 'pod' style accommodation for those fleeing the war in Ukraine. The project delivered 62 units with a capacity to accommodate 257 people.
