For the last two years, my Department has run a rent-a-room campaign with the objective of increasing the number of digs beds available to students in advance of the academic year.  Central to the messaging is the ability to avail of tax relief under the rent-a-room scheme, which allows homeowners to receive up to €14,000 a year tax-free. Last year's campaign resulted in an increase of approximately 1,800 digs beds advertised by our HEIs.

I can confirm that officials within my Department are preparing for the 2025 rent-a-room campaign. It is expected that the campaign will commence in August across radio, print, digital and social media channels.
