The Just Transition Commission is an advisory body established by Government Decision of 30 April 2024. The chair and members of the Just Transition Commission were appointed by the Government on 22 October 2024 for a three-year term, in line with the Commission’s Terms of Reference.

The Commission's role is to support the Government in its responsibility to provide that Ireland’s transition to the National Climate Objective has regard to the requirement for a just transition. The Commission provides impartial, strategic, and evidence-based advice to inform policy planning related to just transition across different sectors.

In line with the final report of the Just Transition Taskforce, a group convened to build consensus and make recommendations to the Minister on an agreed approach to establishing the Just Transition Commission, the Commission was established initially on an administrative basis. I have met the Chair of the JTC and welcome the Commissions first Report. I look forward to continuing to work with the Commission and will keep the basis of the Commission's establishment under review.
