Ceisteanna (242)

Frankie Feighan

Ceist:

242. Deputy Frankie Feighan asked the Minister for Transport for an update on the progress of the N16 road from Sligo to Enniskillen, which has seen considerable progress over the years, namely the upgrade of sections around Glenfarne village and north of Sligo town; for an update on the provision of funding for the continued upgrading of this important road, which connects the northwest and Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme. Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the planning and construction of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. This is also subject to the Infrastructure Guidelines and the necessary statutory approvals. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you on the latest status on the projects on the N16.

There have been a number of minor works projects on the N16 that have received allocations from TII this year, including the N16 Lugatober Realignment, which was allocated €2.1 million and the N16 Glenfarne Road Safety Improvement Scheme, which received an allocation of €31,500 for 2025.

Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
