679. Deputy Barry Ward asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of staff allocated to the Garda National Immigration Bureau; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [37871/25]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) is a national Bureau that is responsible for the prevention, detection and investigation of illegal immigration. They are responsible for the enforcement of deportation and removal orders. They also provide assistance, advice and support to Immigration Officers located in Garda Divisions around the country. In addition to the members of GNIB, there are Gardaí who are certified Immigration Officers deployed across the country who fulfil immigration functions as the need arises.
The Garda Commissioner has advised me that as of the end of May 2025, the total number of Gardaí attached to the GNIB is 91.
As the Deputy will be aware, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the deployment of Garda members throughout the State.
