257. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science if specific transport will be put in place for a student (details supplied) with additional needs [38011/25]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe provision of public transport services falls within the remit of the Department of Transport.
The Fund for Students with Disabilities (FSD) provides funding to Education and Training Boards (ETBs) which provides supports and services to eligible students with specific disabilities so that they can participate on an equal basis with their peers on PLC courses.
SOLAS have advised that there is a process in place where eligible persons can seek specific supports through the FSD and specific funding is allocated to the fund for non-ETB PLC colleges/schools. PLC learners with specific disabilities wishing to access the FSD supports should do so through their college/school.
The learner may wish to contact their local ETB to enquire whether a closer alternative is available. My officials will be in contact with the Deputy's office to get more details that will assist the learner to contact the appropriate person in their local ETB.
