Deputy Mark Wall asked the Minister for Social Protection the number of persons or couples in receipt of the telephone allowance for each of the last four years; the number per county; and the cost to his Department for each of those last 4 years, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Telephone Support Allowance is a weekly payment for people who live alone and are already in receipt of certain other social welfare payments. It is paid at a single rate of €2.50 a week.

The number of recipients of Telephone Support Allowance by county at the 31st December in each year from 2021 to 2024 is provided in Table 1 below, and overall expenditure in these years is provided in Table 2.
