Deputy Brian Brennan asked the Minister for Social Protection the reason a carers support grant application for a person (details supplied) was not approved, following the award of carers benefit for a person with autism who is been cared for full-time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraCarer's Benefit was awarded to the person concerned from 18 September 2025.
As the person was not entitled to Carer's Benefit on the first Thursday in June 2025, there is no automatic entitlement to the 2025 CSG grant.
However, my Department received an application for the stand-alone CSG from the person concerned on 13 October 2025. In their application, the person confirmed that they were in employment for 33 hours per week up to 14 September 2025. As a result, the application was disallowed on the grounds the person does not meet the condition of the grant that the carer must not be in employment / training for more than 18.5 hours a week.
A letter issued to the person concerned on 22 October 2025, informing them of the above decision and advising them of their right of review and appeal.
