244. Deputy Michael Murphy asked the Minister for Transport the total length of the local road network and the regional road network nationally; if he will provide the most recent verified figures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [67103/25]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of each local authority in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from local authorities' own resources supplemented by State road grants.
In 2024, the Minister issued a direction to all local authorities regarding the requirement for them to record their road schedules on MapRoad Asset Management Service (AMS). Local authorities are currently finalising the updates to their respective road schedules. The information supplied is extracted from the system and is the current position of the road schedule which may not fully reflect the final actual road lengths on the network.
