The Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) is targeted towards supporting communities that are impacted by disadvantage, as identified in the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) of the relevant local authority. It provides small capital grants to community and voluntary groups for the improvement/refurbishment of their facilities and/or the purchase of equipment. It operates in a complementary manner to add value to other front-line schemes and programmes being operated in communities.
The fund is administered locally on behalf of my Department by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) across the country, with support from their local authority.
The Local Enhancement Programme for 2025 was announced in November 2024 and provided €6 million in capital supports to many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged communities in rural and urban areas. It also provided a further €1 million in current funding to community Groups, including Men’s Sheds and Women’s Sheds, to assist with their energy and running costs. The 2025 Programme is now closed for applications.
My Department is currently considering a Local Enhancement Programme for 2026 and I expect to announce details of the new programme shortly.
I would encourage all community and voluntary organisations to check their local council's website and to engage with their Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) to ensure that they are aware of the application process for LEP 2026.
