The Government is committed to growing apprenticeship opportunities for learners, recognising the important role they play in equipping Ireland’s workforce with the skills needed to meet national priorities, including infrastructure delivery.

In Budget 2026, my Department secured an additional €79 million investment in apprenticeship delivery - the largest since the formation of this Department. This investment will directly support the expansion of the craft apprenticeship system and support key trades such as plumbing and electrical, which are essential to delivering the National Development Plan.

All apprenticeships are national programmes. Since 2020, the apprenticeship offering has increased from 58 to 78 programmes, spanning sectors such as construction, engineering, electrical, ICT, finance, hospitality, amongst others.

Currently, there are 96 locations that offer apprenticeship training. This is provided across 16 Educational Training Boards and 10 Higher Education Institutions throughout the country. The locations of these training centres and the number of programmes offered are set out in the attached table.
