As set out in my answer to Question No. 334 of 2 December, Uisce Éireann has statutory responsibility for all aspects of water services planning, delivery and operation at national, regional and local levels. Water services connection charges, for public water connections, are an element of Uisce Éireann’s water charges plan which is subject to approval by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

There is no policy for direct support for households that wish to transfer from their own private supply to an Uisce Éireann supply. However, under my Department's Rural Water Programme, individual households may, in certain circumstances, qualify for financial assistance for remediation of their private water supply (well). The Programme also includes provisions to address exceptional circumstances. In certain cases, it may be more efficient and sustainable to support a household’s connection to the Uisce Éireann network rather than providing a private well grant for remediation work.

Replies to Questions Nos. 523 to 525, inclusive, not received from Department.
