Invalidity Pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and for no other reason and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.
My Department received an application for IP from the person concerned on 2 May 2025. Based on the information supplied, the application was refused on the grounds that the medical and contribution conditions for the scheme were not satisfied. Notification of the decision issued to the person in question on 16 July 2025.
In the meantime, the person concerned has been awarded Illness Benefit (credits only) with my Department from 23 November 2023 and the credited contributions have now been added to their contribution record. As a result, the person concerned now meets the qualifying contribution conditions for IP. A review of their medical suitability for the scheme has also been undertaken and they are now deemed medically eligible for IP.
The person concerned has been awarded IP with effect from 8 May 2025 and will receive their first payment to their nominated bank account on 11 December 2025. Any arrears due for the period 8 May 2025 to 10 December 2025 will issue shortly after the first payment date. The person referred to was notified of this decision on 5 December 2025.
I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
