I can advise the Deputy that on the 26th of November I obtained government approval to introduce new policies and legislative changes to strengthen Ireland’s migration and asylum system to ensure it is rules-based, efficient and more aligned with EU Member States. These reforms also include a thorough review of the family reunification policy, developed with Minister of State Colm Brophy.
These new policies and legislative changes are designed to strengthen the system integrity, enhance clarity for applicants, and ensure that migration pathways remain fair, transparent and sustainable.
It is common practice for Ministers to signal forthcoming policy changes publicly once Government approval has been secured. This ensures wide public awareness and gives immediate clarity to applicants, practitioners, and other interested parties.
Any matters that require changes to primary legislation will be subject to Oireachtas approval and debate in the normal manner.
