I refer to Parliamentary Question No. 286 of 16 October 2025 where you sought “the number of times An Garda Síochána have been deployed for protest management at Leinster House in 2024 and to date in 2025; the total expenditure incurred by An Garda Síochána for these deployments in both years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.”

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, in 2024, Gardaí responded to 194 protest situations at Leinster House. 148 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 5 Gardaí, 25 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 10 Gardaí, and 21 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 20 Gardaí. In total, 9,105 hours of policing were required at a cost of €364,200.

In 2025, as of 28 November, Gardaí responded to 379 protest situations at Leinster House. 322 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 5 Gardaí, 32 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 10 Gardaí, and 25 of these incidents required the deployment of approximately 20 Gardaí. In total, 14,630 hours of policing were required at a cost of €585,200.

The Garda authorities have advised me that total costs are based on an estimated overtime rate of approximately €40 per hour.

Question No. 610 answered with Question No. 586.
