The Garda Commissioner is responsible for managing the administration and business of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, including the training and allocation of Garda personnel and the deployment of resources available to him.
There are a total of 515 Garda members currently trained to CPD3 standard for the operation of high-powered Garda vehicles in the organisation. Garda authorities advise, however, that not all trained members remain in roles that require this certification as some may have been promoted and/or successful in competitions to transfer to other positions within the organisation where this certification is not applicable.
Garda authorities advise that they are unable to provide a count of the current divisional allocation of trained members within the timeframe available as this would require consultation with each individual Divisional Roads Policing Unit.
