Over the summer, an official from my Department provided the US Embassy with an overview of the work being done to develop the new National Maritime Security Strategy, including the public consultation that my Department undertook in support of this work.

Subsequently, the US Embassy asked whether Ireland is considering joining a US initiative on the security and resilience of undersea cables, known as the New York Principles. As this initiative is a policy matter within the responsibility of the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, the US Embassy’s request was shared with them and that Department is currently considering this matter.
