I propose to take Questions Nos. 566, 567, 568 and 569 together.

Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of domestic wastewater treatment systems (DWWTS), including shared septic tanks serving apartment blocks, rests with the owners, who must ensure that their system functions effectively and does not pose a risk to human health or the environment.

Grant supports are available under the DWWTS grant schemes to assist with repair, upgrade, or full replacement of a system where the eligibility criteria are met. Where a system is leaking or causing pollution, owners should contact the relevant local authority for advice and any necessary remedial action.

Local authorities are responsible for protecting water quality under the Local Government (Water Pollution) Acts and are best placed to provide information specific to individual premises.

Question No. 567 answered with Question No. 566.
