The Dept of Health recently attended the Joint Committee on Health to discuss the role of alcohol in the national drugs strategy. The meeting was also attended by the Coalition for Better Alcohol Policy. This provided an opportunity to have comprehensive engagement on the role of alcohol in the drugs strategy.
I recently received a draft of the national drugs strategy 2026-2029, which provides an integrated, equitable and evidence-based response to drug and harmful alcohol use.
I have decided that a public consultation will be undertaken to gather the views of the public on the draft strategy. The organisation referred to will have an opportunity to contribute to the consultation.
