Deputy Alan Kelly asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science the current status of a €50 million loan provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) to University College Cork for the development of a new business school; whether his Department or the Higher Education Authority has received correspondence from the EIB regarding the loan; the amount of the loan drawn down to date; the amount of interest paid on the loan; the potential amount of future interest costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. University College Cork is an autonomous institution responsible for the oversight, planning and management of its capital development plan, including the development of a new business school. In that regard, any engagement UCC has with lenders, such as European Investment Bank, is a matter for the institute and its governing authority.
