Ceist:

1501. Deputy John Clendennen asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to detail the annual spend on external consultants by his Department and its agencies in each of the past three years; the number of consultancy contracts, the largest individual consultancy engagements by value, and whether internal capacity-building or cost-benefit assessments were undertaken prior to engaging external consultants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Full details of consultancy expenditure for the past 3 years in respect of my Department are set out in the following link. In terms of consultancies, my Department assesses the internal capacity to carry out such work and only employs consultants if the necessary skills are either not available or not sufficient to undertake the required work.

The information requested in relation to bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for the individual bodies concerned. Arrangements have been put in place by each Agency to facilitate the provision of information directly to members of the Oireachtas.
