Decisions regarding deportation from the U.S. and other related immigration issues are a matter for the relevant authorities in the U.S. My officials engage with their American counterparts on a wide range of immigration related issues, particularly where there is an impact on Irish citizens.

My understanding is that latest reports indicate that the possible deportation of the individual mentioned is no longer planned.

The protection and promotion of human rights is a core pillar of Ireland's approach to foreign policy. It forms an important part of our dialogue with all of our partners.

Ireland has consistently raised our concerns about human rights issues in China, including about the situation in Xinjiang, both in meetings with Chinese officials and in relevant international fora.
