Ireland's Consul General in New York and the team at the Consulate regularly engage with political figures at State and local levels in New York and across the consular area.
This includes regular engagement with the Mayor of New York City, as well as his or her officials. This provides opportunities for the discussion of a wide range of shared interests, including the city's Irish communities.
The then Consul General met with Mayor Mamdani at the Emigrant Support Programme funded 'St Pat’s for All Parade' in March 2025, when Mamdani was serving as a New York State Assemblyman. The current Consul General wrote to Mayor Mamdani following his election last November and looks forward to opportunities for engagement with the Mayor and his team.
