As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure, including the provision of BusConnects Cork.

The BusConnects Cork Programme is made up of a number of different elements and is designed to provide a better, more reliable, and more efficient bus service for everyone in addition to providing safe cycling facilities along key routes.

The BusConnects Cork preliminary Business Case was approved by Government in October 2025, allowing for the continued progress of the programme including the submission of applications for planning permission.

The new temporary bus depot facility in Tivoli is expected to be available from Quarter 2 2026, which will facilitate the additional bus fleet needed for Cork.

Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive within 10 days.
