Ceisteanna (340)

Michael Cahill

Ceist:

340. Deputy Michael Cahill asked the Minister for Transport if he can ensure that Kerry Airport is included along with Donegal as the two regional airports that qualify for a PSO in the Regional Airport Programme for the next five years, 2026 -2030 (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Regional Airports Programme supports regional connectivity via a Public Service Obligation (PSO) air services scheme, providing subsidised air services to remote regions in accordance with Regulation (EU) 1008/2008 on the common rules for the provision of air services in the Community. Currently one PSO route operates between Donegal and Dublin.

As the Deputy is aware air services between Kerry and Dublin airports also operated as an Exchequer funded Public PSO air service in the past. However, as allowed for under the Regulation, an air carrier has operated this route on a commercial basis since July 2021. Given that a PSO is no longer imposed on this route, operations are now a commercial matter for the carrier providing the service.

In the event of any lost or failed services on this route, in accordance with EU Regulation 1008/2008 a review would be required to be undertaken by my Department to consider whether a PSO should again be imposed on this route.

Question No. 341 answered with Question No. 339.
