Ceisteanna (343)

Michael Cahill

Ceist:

343. Deputy Michael Cahill asked the Minister for Transport the emergency interventions he can make in conjunction with TII, the RSA, and KCC to end decades of forced road closures through the numerous serious, sometimes fatal road traffic collisions at the Brennan's Glen/Lawlor's Cross N22 Killarney to Tralee Road; if he will visit the location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme. Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the operation and management of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. This is also subject to the Infrastructure Guidelines and the necessary statutory approvals. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you in relation to the N22 at the Brennan's Glen/Lawlor's Cross.

The Government is committed to reducing road deaths and creating safer roads for everyone in Ireland.

Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.

In relation to the suggested visit, diary requests can be sent to [ministerdiary@transport.gov.ie] and will be dealt with in line with all other meeting requests.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
